After Abortion

Beyond the physical risks of abortion, there is an emotional risk.  Some women experience strong negative emotions after abortion.  Sometimes this occurs within days and sometimes it happens after many years.  This psychological response is known as Post-Abortion Stress (PAS).  Several factors that impact the likelihood of PAS include: the woman’s age, abortion circumstances, the stage of pregnancy when aborted, and the woman’s religious beliefs.  Some of the symptoms of PAS are guilt, anger, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, anniversary grief, sexual dysfunction, drug and alcohol abuse.

Turning Point offers a support group to those experiencing PAS, please contact us for more information. Further online information and support is also available at www.healinghearts.org or www.rachelsvineyard.org
